The symbol in the science of rhetoric is the hidden metaphor, and its plural is symbols. Symbol in literature, technically: It is an artistic method used by the writer, according to his emotional experience or artistic outlook, and it contributes to forming the meaning that he wants to convey. The symbol is a word, phrase, character, or the name of a place, and it includes two meanings, one direct and apparent, and the other hidden, linked to the meaning that is intended to be conveyed. Such as the use of the dove as a symbol of peace, blood as a symbol of war and murder, rain as a symbol of goodness, and the scales as a symbol of justice.
