Abstract

This study examines the legacy of Buddhism in contemporary Kashmir, emphasizing its current significance within Kashmiri society and culture. This research utilizes qualitative methods, including interviews and focus group discussions, in conjunction with a comprehensive literature review of essential texts, to identify key themes such as historical significance, adaptability, community engagement, environmental relevance, and cultural preservation. Research indicates that, although Buddhism's historical deterioration, it persists in influencing identity and promoting communal togetherness in Kashmir. The study emphasizes the lasting impact of Buddhist teachings, their amalgamation with indigenous traditions, and their contribution to fostering interfaith communication and ecological awareness, therefore providing insights into Buddhism's capacity to tackle modern difficulties.
